The Medical Faculty of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster offers the position of a
University Professor (W3) for neurology - main focus on neuroimmunology
in the Department of Neurology (director Prof. Dr. H. Wiendl) starting as soon as possible. Applications of both, physicians or natural scientists are welcome. The future holder of the position (male/female) must fully represent the subject with regard to research and teaching.
The candidate (male/female) must have an internationally recognized research profile in clinical and experimental neuroimmunology. Candidates with research focus from the fields of neuroimmunological diseases with particular interest in immune regulatory processes and immune regulatory processes both peripheral and within the central nervous system are expected. Broad expertise in immunology and neurobiology is desired to study the interactions between inflammatory processes and the nervous system. In addition, documented experience in experimental models of neuroinflammatory diseases and human immune system models is required for translational approaches bridging experimental basic research with clinical research.
Candidates are expected to have an international record in the above mentioned fields of sciences. Upon prior agreement physicians may also be involved in clinical patient care.
The successful candidate (male/female) will be expected to closely cooperate with the research associations of the Faculty of Medicine - e.g. the "Cells in Motion Cluster of Excellence" (EXC 1003-CiM), the "Interdisciplinary Clinical Research Centre" (IZKF), the "Center for Clinical Studies" (ZKS), Collaborative Research Programmes (Sonderforschungsbereiche) and the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Biomedicine.
Prerequisite for the application are excellent scientific achievements as a junior professor; alternatively, scientific achievements can result from a postdoctoral lecture qualification (habilitation), work as a research scientist at a school of higher education/university, non-university institute, industry, administration, or other fields of society within or outside Germany.

According to a resolution by the Conference of the German Ministers for Science and Education on 19th November, 1999, professors with clinical tasks will principally be employed on the basis of individually negotiable contracts (exceptions are possible, if applicants are already employed as a life time professor of the salary group C3/W2). Clinical duties affiliated with this professorship will be laid down in a separate contract with the University Clinic.
